Picture_53.pngMy name is Sildia Gonzalez, and I'm studying elements, so for art we did a print about our element. My element is Potassium. The atomic number is 19, and the letter is K. Potassium is found around nature and nature associated things. For example in many fruits and vegetables like; bananas, oranges, melons, prunes, peaches, grapefruit, corn, cantaloupe, spinach, etc. Potassium was discovered in 1807 by a British scientist named Sir Humphry Davy.

I got the idea of my print by researching potassium and i got a better understanding about things that contain Potassium. When i got my results i decided that i was going to do a fruit basket theme. Most people when they hear potassium they think about bananas, so i didn't want to do only a banana because that would be so common. Instead of only having a banana i choose to have a cantolope, prunes, oranges, and juice coming out the oranges into a cup. The first thing i did to make my print was trace my drawing into the linoleum block, then choose my what is going to be negative and positive. Then carve it, it was hard carving it because the block was hard and the carving tool kept going everywhere. After i carved it, i had to choose the color i wanted to use and use the rollers to paint it. Finally i took the wet block and put the paper on it and with the wooden spoon pressed on it to transferred it from the block to he paper. When i was done doing that i put it to dry. When i first started i was excited and thought it was going to be easy. I was tried when i was done.

I liked the printing better because it was much faster and easier. Also because you can get to mix colors and work with the paint. I would like to do the carving better next time because after the second print, the lines were not as noticeable. In all i was pleased with my piece.
